Samsung Aims to Launch Rollable Smartphone with 12.4-Inch Display Next Year
In a major breakthrough, Samsung is reportedly working on a smartphone featuring a large, rollable display that can be expanded to a whopping 12.4 inches. The device, said to arrive next year, would mark a significant shift in the company’s foldable technology, offering a more extensive and flexible display experience.
According to The Elec, a Korean publication, the rollable phone would be equipped with an under-display camera (UDC), eliminating the need for a camera cutout and providing an uninterrupted viewing experience. The combination of a large display and UDC technology could, however, result in a higher price tag for the device.
This is not the first time Samsung has showcased innovative foldable displays. The company has previously demonstrated prototype phones that fold inward twice, like the alphabet G, and another prototype folds in the form of the letter Z. Samsung has also been granted patents for phones with rollable and triple-folding screens.
In recent years, the South Korean tech giant has been working to stay ahead of the competition in the foldable market. Despite launching its first foldable smartphone in 2019, Samsung has been overshadowed by Huawei, which unveiled the Mate XT Ultimate Design, a triple-folding smartphone, earlier this month.
Samsung is expected to launch its rollable phone in the second half of 2025, with more details about the device likely to surface in the coming months. If the company follows through with its plans, the new smartphone could mark a major milestone in the development of foldable technology.
