Tremor and Vibration Send Residents of Abuja’s Mpape into Panic
For the past five days, residents of Mpape, a neighborhood in Abuja’s Bwari Area Council, have been living in fear due to intense tremors and vibrations that have left them shaken and worried. According to Dr. Ebenezer Adebisi, Chairman of the Mpape Hills Landlord Association, this is not the first time such an experience has occurred, but it has become more frequent and intense in the past few days.
While the cause of the vibration remains unknown, residents believe it is more severe than the usual tremors felt during rock blasting activities carried out by quarry companies in the area. Mr. Adebisi noted that the vibration was more pronounced on Sunday and Monday night, leaving many residents, including those in neighboring areas such as Gwarinpa and Katampe, feeling uneasy.
Concerned residents, including Florence Ilesanmi, a resident of Gwari Village, Mpape, and Aisha Lawal, a resident at Crushrock area, Mpape, have shared similar experiences, citing the increased frequency of the vibration as a source of worry.
In response to the situation, an official from the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency has urged residents to consider temporary relocation if the tremor continues. The official explained that residents should continue recording the frequency of the vibrations and advised them to evacuate their premises if the situation becomes severe.
The situation has left many residents, including Mr. Adebisi, calling on the Nigerian government and the Nigeria Geological Agency to provide relief and guidance to those affected. As the situation continues to unfold, residents can only hope that a swift and effective solution is implemented to alleviate their fears and concerns.
