Traditional Rulers Seek Federal Government’s Support to Regain Lost Dignity

In a bid to regain their lost dignity, traditional rulers in Nigeria have called on the federal government to enact laws that will make them relevant again. The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin, made this appeal while receiving the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye Orumogege 111 at his palace in Oke Aremo Ibadan on Tuesday.

Olakulehin emphasized that traditional rulers are the closest to the people and play a crucial role in society, even before the colonial era. He noted that Ibadan and Ogbomoso have been in a good relationship since time immemorial, and that traditional rulers have a responsibility to ensure unity, cooperation, and the preservation of cultural values among the people.

The Olubadan also appealed to the federal government to enact laws that will allow traditional rulers to regain their lost glory in the country. He expressed his commitment to ensuring that traditional rulers in the state and the South West region work together to promote unity and cultural values.

The President-General of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, Chief Ajeniyi Ajewole, also spoke at the event, appreciating God for the continued mutual relationship between Ibadan and Ogbomoso. He appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to return the respect, value, and dignity of traditional rulers as witnessed before colonization.

The event was witnessed by several high-ranking traditional rulers and dignitaries, including Asipa Olubadan, Oba Abiodun Kola-Daisi, Ekerin Olubadan, Oba Amidu Ajibade, and others.

The call for the federal government’s support comes at a time when traditional rulers are seeking to regain their lost influence and authority in Nigerian society. With the country’s complex cultural heritage and diverse ethnic groups, the role of traditional rulers is crucial in promoting unity and stability.

As the federal government considers the appeal, it is essential to recognize the importance of traditional rulers in Nigerian society and the need to support their efforts to regain their lost dignity. By doing so, the government can help promote unity, cultural values, and stability in the country.
