As the September 21, 2024, Edo State governorship election draws near, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has begun airlifting sensitive election materials to the state to ensure a smooth and peaceful conduct of the polls.
According to a statement issued by Group Captain Kabiru Ali, the Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information, NAF, the airlifting exercise is aimed at providing timely and secure delivery of sensitive materials necessary for the election. This move is part of a broader effort to facilitate logistics and ensure a peaceful election process in Edo State.
The statement quoted Group Captain Ali as saying, “The Nigerian Air Force has commenced the airlift of election materials for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to Benin, Edo State, ahead of the upcoming governorship election scheduled for 21 September 2024.”
This collaborative effort between NAF and INEC demonstrates the military’s commitment to providing Military Aid to Civil Authority, as stated by Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, during a recent meeting with INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu.
