Celebrity Moms Share Realities of Motherhood, Self-Care, and Body Acceptance
Kelly Rowland and Ciara, two renowned R&B stars, have taken their friendship to new heights by teaming up with Baby2Baby, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing essential items to children in need. During a recent philanthropic event, the duo spoke with PARENTS magazine about their personal experiences as mothers, including their struggles with body acceptance, self-care, and the challenges of raising multiple children.
Kelly Rowland, mother to two sons, Titan, 9, and Noah, 2, opened up about her postpartum body transformation. "I’m looking in the mirror, going, ‘I don’t know what happened to my 20-year-old self. She’s gone. I hope it doesn’t sound shallow, but I started to pick myself apart,’" she shared. However, after having her second baby, Noah, she came to appreciate her body, saying, "Oh girl, you’re just a little bit thicker but in all the right places. I thanked my body because it really did the job and it got me through."
Ciara, mother to four children, Future, 10, and Win, 4, and daughters Sienna, 7, and Amora (who will be 1 in December), echoed Kelly’s sentiments. "This go around, I didn’t press as hard to lose all my baby weight. I actually kind of liked holding on to a little bit more hip than I maybe have in the past," she said.
Both Kelly and Ciara acknowledged the mental toll of motherhood, admitting to leaning into self-care and their support systems for assistance. Kelly revealed she utilizes therapy, while Ciara enjoys her alone time, saying, "I’m very proud of it. I have so many things going on in my brain, and sometimes they just need to be filed and sorted properly… It’s the best thing ever and I feel great."
Ciara also credited her husband, NFL star Russell Wilson, for his support, saying, "I gotta thank my husband because he’s amazing. Doing this parenting journey with him is such a blessing because he’s so in it. He likes to know every detail like I do. I’m so grateful that I do life with him every day, and we get to raise our beautiful children together."
As they shared their experiences, Kelly and Ciara emphasized the importance of mutual support and humility among mothers. Kelly advised, "Be supportive of each other," and "have humility," while Ciara emphasized the value of learning from one another, saying, "It takes a village."
The two celebrity moms’ candid conversation serves as a powerful reminder that motherhood is a journey that requires self-compassion, self-care, and a willingness to learn and grow alongside others. Their stories can be a valuable resource for new mothers and a reminder that they are not alone in their struggles and triumphs.
