Nigerian actor IK Ogbonna has sparked controversy in the Christian community by publicly criticizing the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for allegedly turning a blind eye to the proliferation of "fake miracles" in some churches. In a series of Instagram posts, the actor called out CAN to take action against pastors and churches that exploit vulnerable followers by staging fake miracles to gain attention and profit.

Ogbonna claimed that the use of God’s name for falsehood was a betrayal of the gospel and urged Christians to remain cautious of social media trends that disrespect their faith. He also called on the federal government and CAN to regulate and hold accountable the bad actors who are harming the integrity of Christianity.

The actor’s post comes on the heels of a controversial video circulating online that features members of The Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries sharing bizarre testimonies. One woman claimed to have recovered from being robbed by armed men after saying "I’m a chosen," while another man testified that a lion rescued him from kidnappers by carrying him into the air and guiding him to safety. A third man claimed to have survived kidnappers, machete attacks, and gunshots without sustaining any injuries.

Ogbonna warned that these fake miracles could lead to broken trust, lost lives, and manipulated faith for personal gain. He urged Christians to recognize that true miracles do not come from deception and instead called on CAN and other religious bodies to take decisive action against those who would exploit their followers.

While some have praised Ogbonna for speaking out against the issue, others have criticized him for meddling in religious affairs.
