Kano State Governor Dissolves Local Govt Chairmen

Kano Governor Dissolves Caretaker Chairmen of 44 Local Governments

In a sudden move, Abba Yusuf, the Governor of Kano State in Nigeria, has dissolved the caretaker chairmen of all 44 local government areas in the state with immediate effect. This decision follows a statement released by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature.

The dissolution occurs just a week after the state House of Assembly granted a two-month extension to the initial September 8 expiration of the caretakers’ tenure. According to lawmakers, the extension aimed to maintain continuity in local governance. Local government elections are now scheduled to take place on October 26.

According to the order, Yusuf has instructed the outgoing caretaker chairmen to hand over the reins of leadership to the Directors of Personnel Management.

“This dissolution applies to all chairmen, vice-chairmen, secretaries, and councillors,” Yusuf stated, expressing gratitude for the contributions made by the caretakers to the development of their local government areas, while leaving the door open for future collaboration.
