Champions League Hero: Arsenal’s David Raya Credits Stunning Double Save as One of the Best in His Career
Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has hailed his stunning double save against Atalanta in the UEFA Champions League as one of the best three he has made in his career. The match ended in a 0-0 draw in Bergamo on Thursday night, with Raya’s heroics securing a vital point for the Gunners.
Raya’s incredible save denied Mateo Retegui from the penalty spot, and he was quick to praise his teammates for their role in the double save. "I saved it and then I was lucky enough to get up again and get the rebound, and then luckily enough, Declan I think it was, managed to kick the ball for a corner, so obviously I’m delighted with the double save," Raya said in a post-match interview with Arsenal’s website.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper revealed that the save ranks among the top three best in his career, with the Aston Villa match that secured a win for Arsenal being a special memory. "I think this one is one of the top three in my career. Of course, the Aston Villa got us to win the game and everything so that is a little bit more special, but doing it in the Champions League is a dream," Raya said.
Raya’s impressive display has once again showcased his exceptional goalkeeping skills, and he will be looking to build on this performance as Arsenal continues their Champions League campaign.
