Elections in Edo State: Security Forces Identify Flash Spots Ahead of Governorship Poll

As Edo State prepares for its governorship election on Saturday, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has identified 60 flash spots across the three senatorial districts. State Commandant Gbenga Agun made this revelation during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, emphasizing that personnel have been deployed to these areas to ensure maximum security.

However, Deputy Commandant-General Philip Ayuba warned NSCDC personnel against wearing non-conforming uniforms, aiming to prevent infiltration into their ranks. Ayuba mentioned reports of individuals attempting to infiltrate the personnel and assured that measures are in place to check this. He urged officers to adhere to the rules of the game, including wearing the correct uniform, and promised that anyone not complying will be denied.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Edo Election, Frank Mbah, revealed that the state command of the Police Force has identified some flash points and black spots. Mbah explained that the force has carried out targeted operations to address these challenges, citing that some operations are classified and he cannot provide further details.

Despite this, Mbah assured that the police will leave no stone unturned to ensure a peaceful environment for the election. He emphasized that intelligence-driven operations are being conducted around identified areas, aiming to guarantee a smooth and secure polling process.

With the stakes high in Edo State’s governorship election, security forces are working to ensure a peaceful and credible outcome. As the voting day approaches, residents of the state can expect heightened security measures in place to protect their right to exercise their democratic power.
