Nigeria’s Military Seals Off Cycle Governorship Elections with Resolute Actions against Terrorism
In a stark reminder of the ongoing operations against terrorism and insecurity, Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters on Friday revealed that troops eliminated 159 terrorists and apprehended approximately 174 others during the past week.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj Gen Edward Buba, announced these significant achievements in Abuja while providing an update on the armed forces’ multifaceted operations across the country. According to Major General Buba, within the same period, soldiers also rescued 188 abducted hostages, apprehended 45 perpetrators of oil theft, and recovered 151 assorted weapons and 12,401 assorted ammunition, a testament to their robust efforts.
The military said they have taken resolute steps towards ending terrorism and insecurity in the country via ongoing operations, yielding noticeable results as troops dismantle the networks of terrorists and incapacitate their leadership and rank-and-file members, clearing the battlefield of key actors.
Furthermore, it has been confirmed that personnel have been strategically deployed for the off-cycle governorship election scheduled for September 21 in Edo state. Their role is explicitly defined as supporting the security efforts of the police forces, ensuring the safety, security, and free enjoyment of the electoral process amidst a backdrop of looming external threats.
