EFCC Deploys Operatives to Edo State to Tackle Voters’ Inducement in Saturday’s Governorship Election

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced that its operatives have been deployed to all local government areas in Edo State to monitor and prevent voters’ inducement in the upcoming Saturday governorship election. This move is aimed at ensuring the integrity of the electoral process and protecting voters from financial inducements that could influence their decisions at the polls.

According to a statement released by EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the Commission is committed to insulating voters from every form of financial inducement in exercising their franchise. The statement quoted the Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, as saying that the Commission is committed to the attainment of electoral integrity across the country.

"Our operatives have been deployed to monitor the conduct of the elections. We are committed to the attainment of electoral integrity by ensuring that voters cast their votes democratically without any form of financial inducement. Vote buying is a financial crime and the EFCC won’t allow it anywhere," he emphasized.

The EFCC has a long history of involvement in monitoring electoral processes across the country, and this deployment is in line with its mandate of tackling all forms of economic and financial crimes. The off-cycle election in Edo State has 17 candidates vying for the governorship seat at the Dennis Osadebay House in Benin City, with voters set to replace Governor Godwin Obaseki, whose eight-year leadership comes to an end in November.

The EFCC’s efforts to prevent voters’ inducement are timely and necessary, given the importance of free and fair elections in a democratic system. By deploying its operatives to all local government areas in Edo State, the Commission is sending a strong message that it is committed to protecting the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring that voters are not influenced by financial inducements.
