Apple’s iPhone 17 Series Expected to Bring High-Refresh Display Feature to Non-Pro Models
Apple’s latest iPhone 16 series has just hit the shelves in India and other markets, but rumors are already swirling about the company’s next-generation iPhone models. According to market analyst Ross Young, Apple’s iPhone 17 series, expected to debut in the second half of 2025, will support a display feature that was previously limited to Pro models.
In a now-deleted post on X (formerly Twitter), Young claimed that the successors to the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will be equipped with upgraded displays that can refresh at a rate of between 1Hz and 120Hz. This would be a significant upgrade for non-Pro models, which currently feature 60Hz displays.
The news comes as no surprise, given Apple’s previous adoption of high-refresh displays in its Pro models. The company introduced its 120Hz ProMotion technology in the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max in 2021, and has since included it in its latest Pro models.
If Young’s claim is accurate, the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Slim could be the first non-Pro models to feature high-refresh displays. This would put them on par with some cheaper Android smartphones, which offer higher refresh rates at a fraction of the cost.
But the iPhone 17 series isn’t just about display upgrades. The Pro models are also expected to feature more RAM and a new 2nm chipset from Apple, built by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) next year. The iPhone 17 Pro Max, in particular, is rumored to come with 12GB of RAM and a vapour chamber cooling system.
While the iPhone 16 lineup offers some incremental hardware improvements over last year’s models, the purported iPhone 17 Pro models seem to be taking things to the next level. As we wait for more details to emerge, one thing is clear: Apple is committed to pushing the boundaries of what its smartphones can do.
