Enugu State’s Council Polls See PDP Sweep Victory
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has emerged victorious in the recently held council polls in Enugu State, Nigeria. According to Prof. Christian Ngwu, the Chairman of the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC), the PDP won all 260 political ward councillorship seats in the 17 Local Government Areas.
The announcement was made on Monday in Enugu, after the commission completed its scrutiny of the results. ENSIEC had earlier declared the PDP winner of all 17 Chairmanship positions in the state.
In his remarks, Prof. Ngwu emphasized that the commission carefully collated and analyzed the results to ensure fairness and credibility. "The election was duly conducted, and it was most peaceful, fair, free and credible," he said.
The chairman also revealed that the commission ensured a level playing field for all 17 political parties that participated in the polls. Additionally, he assured that full details of the councillorship election would be made known to the public subsequently.
Certificate of Return will soon be issued to the winners of the chairmanship and councillorship positions, as per the commission’s procedures.
Interestingly, Prof. Ngwu reported that there was no substantial record of violence during the polls on Saturday. "The commission is not aware of any violence or breakdown of law and order during the polls," he said.
This impressive victory for the PDP in Enugu State comes as a significant development in Nigeria’s political landscape.
