Africa’s Largest Aerospace and Defense Exhibition Concludes in South Africa

The 12th edition of Africa’s largest aerospace and defense exhibition and air show has come to a close in South Africa, attracting hundreds of attendees who braved the cold weather to catch a glimpse of impressive displays, get up close to aircrafts, and see the latest aviation tech.

One of the main attractions at the event was Spot the robotic dog, a regular feature at tech shows. Cape Town-based company Deep Tech Solutions thought outside the box to suggest a different use of the robot, using it to help people conduct advanced remote inspections. According to Rethabile Letlala, a Deep Tech Solutions representative, the robot can be used in search and rescue efforts, identifying risks and providing comfort to victims.

Next-generation weapons were also on display, showcasing the latest advancements in the defense industry. The 5-day Africa Aerospace and Defence Trade and Exhibition brought together key local and international guests looking for opportunities in South Africa’s defense industry. Martin Venter of ECM Technologies praised the event, saying it’s a global draw that brings international communities together.

Chinese hardware had a larger presence at this year’s air show, which usually has a wider contingent of American arms. However, the US military withdrew from the event. The next edition of the exhibition will be held in 2026.

The event has become a significant platform for companies and organizations to showcase their products and services, and for experts to share their knowledge and expertise. As the aerospace and defense industry continues to evolve, events like the Africa Aerospace and Defence Trade and Exhibition play a crucial role in shaping the future of the sector.
