Israel’s Defence Minister Accuses UN Chief of Failing to Prevent Hezbollah Attacks

Israel’s Defence Minister, Yoav Gallant, has accused UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres of failing to prevent Hezbollah attacks on Israel, following the UN chief’s comments that Lebanon is becoming a “nightmare” like Gaza. Gallant’s remarks came in response to Guterres’ statement at the UN General Assembly in New York, where he described Gaza as a “non-stop nightmare” that threatens to engulf the entire region.

According to Gallant, Guterres’ comments are misguided, as the reality is that Hezbollah has taken Lebanon hostage. The defence minister claimed that the UN is neither acknowledging Hezbollah’s actions nor fulfilling its obligation to prevent attacks and implement Resolution 1701.

Gallant’s comments were made in response to Guterres’ statement, in which he said, “Gaza is a non-stop nightmare that threatens to take the entire region with it. Look no further than Lebanon.” The UN chief’s remarks were seen as a reference to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

The dispute between Gallant and Guterres highlights the ongoing tensions between Israel and the UN over the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The UN has consistently condemned Israeli actions in the region, while Israel has accused the UN of being biased against it.

The situation in Lebanon has been precarious in recent months, with frequent clashes between Israeli forces and Hezbollah militants. The conflict has resulted in significant human suffering and displacement, with many civilians caught in the crossfire.

The international community has called for restraint and a peaceful resolution to the conflict. The UN has urged both sides to respect international law and avoid further escalation.

The dispute between Gallant and Guterres is just the latest example of the tensions between Israel and the UN. The two sides have a long history of disagreement over the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and it remains to be seen how this latest dispute will be resolved.
