Ethiopian Airlines Celebrates 60 Years of Uninterrupted Flying Service to Italy

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Ethiopian Airlines has been a vital link between Africa and the rest of the world, and its 60-year-old relationship with Italy is a testament to its commitment to connecting people and economies. The airline celebrated this milestone with a special ceremony, marking six decades of uninterrupted flying service between Ethiopia and Italy.

Italian Ambassador to Ethiopia, Agostino Palese, praised the airline’s immense contribution to people-to-people and economic cooperation not only with Ethiopia but also with the entire continent of Africa. "Ethiopian Airlines has played an irreplaceable role in connecting people and economies, and we are very happy to see it increasing its flights to Italy and Milan starting from December," he said.

Ethiopian Group CEO Mesfin Tassew highlighted the airline’s growth and expansion, stating that Italy is one of the earliest and biggest markets of Ethiopian, which has grown to become a crucial spot in Europe with second service points to Milan. "We have contributed our share to the development of the relationship between the two countries. Ethiopian Airlines is the leading airline today in Africa, serving 40 countries and connecting countries and African people to the rest of the world," he emphasized.

The airline has earned numerous accolades over the years, including the Best Airline in Africa for seven consecutive years and Prestigious Skytrax World Airline Awards, which is a testament to its unwavering commitment to providing the highest standards of service and innovation in aviation.

Ethiopian Airlines now operates some of the most advanced aircraft on the Rome route, including Airbus series, and is eagerly awaiting the arrival of Africa’s first Airbus A350-1000. The airline’s daily flight services to Rome and Milan have given its valued customers in the region the option to seamlessly connect to 64 plus and more than 139 destinations worldwide.

As Ethiopian Airlines looks to the future, it remains committed to its mission of connecting people and economies across the globe. With its rich history and dedication to excellence, the airline is poised to continue playing a vital role in shaping the future of aviation in Africa and beyond.
