You can’t scroll through your social media feeds without seeing it: the adorable baby pygmy hippo that has captured the world’s attention. And now, thanks to the caretakers at Khao Kheow Open Zoo, fans of Moo Deng can indulge in their fascination from anywhere in the world. The Thai zoo has launched a 24-hour livestream of its pygmy hippo enclosure, offering a real-time glimpse into the life of the charming two-month-old.

For those eager to tune in, the livestream is available on the Zoodio website, featuring Moo Deng and other fascinating animals like elephants and penguins. The stream can be accessed by heading to the hippopotamus page, scrolling down, and selecting the “Live Streaming” tab – an easily recognizable option. Although the website is in Thai, the “Live Streaming” tab is conveniently translated into English.

With the stream available 24/7, viewers can tune in whenever they please. However, it’s worth considering that the zoo is in a different time zone than much of the world, so the timing of sightings might be affected. While Moo Deng and her family lead their nocturnal lifestyles with little concern for camera placement, the time difference does impact visibility.

According to the zoo’s social media accounts, Moo Deng follows a routine that’s ripe for optimal viewing times. She begins her day with a shower at 8 a.m. local time (9 p.m. EDT / 6 p.m. PDT), with most of her day spent sleeping or waiting for her mother to eat. Peak activity periods occur around 2 p.m. (3 a.m. EDT / 12 a.m. PDT) and 11 p.m. (12 p.m. EDT / 9 a.m. PDT), when she plays with her mother.

The overwhelming popularity of Moo Deng has had a profound impact on the zoo, with visitor numbers more than doubling since her birth. Director Narongwit Chodchoi shared that 10,000 people recently visited the zoo in a single Saturday, significantly higher than the average weekday or holiday visitor numbers of 900 and 4000, respectively.

The zoo has responded by imposing a 5-minute viewing time limit and restricting weekends for safety reasons. But for those who wish to avoid the crowds or want to experience Moo Deng from the comfort of their own homes, the livestream offers an excellent solution – with no time limit to worry about.

Alas, not all the enthusiastic visitors have been considerate of the zoo’s safety measures. Some individuals have reportedly thrown objects at, splashed, and shouted at Moo Deng, prompting the zoo to take strict measures to protect its visitors and the animals. As a result, fans around the world can peacefully indulge in the joy of observing Moo Deng from a distance, free from the possibility of causing distress.

And so, if you can’t get enough of the adorable pygmy hippo, the zoo has made it easy to see her anytime, from anywhere. Tune in and soak up the cuteness in real-time.
