Gaza School Ablaze: Israeli Strike Kills at Least 15 Civilians, Wounds Many
A devastating Israeli strike on a school-turned-shelter in Gaza on Thursday has claimed the lives of at least 15 people, including children and women, with dozens more seriously injured. The brutal attack has sparked widespread condemnation, with the United Nations calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities.
The Israeli military claimed to have targeted a Hamas command center within the Al-Faluja school in Jabalia camp, north Gaza. However, the military failed to provide information on the casualties, and the target’s authenticity remains unclear. According to the civil defence agency, the death toll was initially reported as seven, but has since been revised to 15, with dozens more wounded.
This latest attack is part of a series of Israeli strikes on school buildings housing displaced people in Gaza, where the conflict has raged for nearly a year. In September, a United Nations-run school in central Gaza was struck, killing 18 people, including six UN staff members. The Israeli military has repeatedly accused Hamas of hiding within school buildings, a claim denied by the Palestinian militant group.
The human toll of the war in Gaza is staggering, with at least 41,534 Palestinians killed, mostly civilians, since the conflict began. The United Nations has acknowledged these figures as reliable. On the Israeli side, 1,205 people were killed in the October 7 attack that triggered the war, most of them civilians, according to official figures.
The ongoing conflict has left deep scars, with thousands of Gazans forced to take refuge in school buildings and other makeshift shelters. As the international community calls for a ceasefire, the situation on the ground remains precarious, with civilians caught in the crossfire.
