Anambra State Governor Outlines Plans to Address Education Gap and Fiscal Sustainability

In a recent meeting with heads of public schools in Anambra, Governor Prof Chukwuma Soludo highlighted the pressing issue of public schools in 77 communities across the state. He emphasized the importance of collective effort in securing the future and seizing opportunities for growth. The governor assured that his administration is working tirelessly to provide options for Anambra people and continue to support teachers in their continuous learning endeavors.

Soludo also addressed the arrears of pensions and gratuities inherited from the previous administration, committing to complete the payments soon. He stressed that anyone retiring under his watch will receive their entitlements after successful documentation. Furthermore, the governor explained that while he has approval to borrow 100 billion naira, he has chosen not to do so to avoid encumbering the future. Instead, he plans to borrow to build capacity for the future and maintain fiscal sustainability.

The governor’s administration has made significant strides in various sectors of the state economy. Notably, they have recruited 8,115 teachers, over 1,000 doctors and health personnel, and empowered 5,000 youths through the "one youth, two skills entrepreneurship scheme". An additional 8,000 youths have also been included in the program.

Soludo’s commitment to addressing the education gap and promoting fiscal sustainability is a welcome development for the people of Anambra. As the state continues to move forward, it is crucial that the government prioritizes education and provides resources for teachers to excel. The governor’s efforts to maintain fiscal sustainability will also help ensure a stable and prosperous future for the state.
