US-Led Ceasefire Call for Lebanon Backed by Israel, Says White House, Despite Later Rejection

The United States has come out with a statement stating that it had coordinated its international call for a ceasefire in Lebanon with Israel, despite the latter’s refusal to back down and continued fight against Hezbollah. On Thursday, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre maintained that talks were ongoing between the international community and the Israeli side at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
