Ex-Taraba Governor Arrested Over N27bn Fraud

EFCC Arrests Former Taraba Governor Over N27 Billion Fraud

In a stunning move, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested former Taraba State Governor Darius Ishaku over alleged fraud worth N27 billion. The former governor was picked up at his Abuja residence early Friday morning and is currently being held in custody.

According to sources, Ishaku will face at least 15-count charges, which are expected to be presented in court soon once evidence against him has been compiled. The EFCC has been investigating Ishaku covertly since he left office as governor, and a senior source revealed that the anti-graft agency has found evidence of significant financial malfeasance.

"Yes, he’s in our custody right now. We have been investigating him covertly since he left as the State governor. There is a lot of financial malfeasance he perpetrated," the source stated.

Dele Oyewale, the EFCC’s spokesperson, confirmed the development, but declined further comment when contacted by Daily Trust. Ishaku’s arrest comes as the commission is currently engaged in a high-profile face-off with former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, who is accused of stealing N80.2 billion.

Ishaku’s detention has sparked widespread speculation about the extent of corruption in Nigerian politics, and the ongoing efforts of the EFCC to hold officials accountable for their actions. As the investigation unfolds, it is clear that this case has significant implications for the fight against corruption in Nigeria and beyond.
