Newly Appointed Olokinni of Okinni Steps into Position
In a recent move, the Osun State Government has officially appointed Prince Kazeem Oyekunle as the new Olokinni of Okinni, a recognized chieftaincy in Egbedore local government area. The announcement was made on Sunday by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, following a meeting of the State Executive Council chaired by Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The appointment came after Prince Oyekunle secured four out of seven votes at a meeting of the Kingmakers of Okinni. His appointment takes effect immediately, following the demise of the previous Olokinni, Oba Akadiri Ookanola Olawale, who passed away on April 2, 2023.
According to the statement issued by the Council, Prince Oyekunle’s appointment is in line with Part II of the Chiefs’ Law (Cap 25), Laws of Osun State, 2022, which recognizes the Olokinni of Okinni chieftaincy. With this new appointment, Prince Oyekunle takes on the responsibilities and ceremonial duties associated with the Olokinni title, marking a significant moment for the people of Okinni and the state at large.
The smooth transition of power and the commitment to honoring the traditional institution of chieftaincy demonstrate the Osun State Government’s dedication to respecting the customs and heritage of its people. As the new Olokinni of Okinni, Prince Oyekunle will play a vital role in promoting the cultural and economic development of the community.
This significant appointment is a testament to the Government’s commitment to preserving traditional institutions and promoting social harmony in the state.
