Nigeria’s Government Approves Over N350 Billion for Dam Expansion and Infrastructure Development
The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved a significant amount of funds to support dam expansion and infrastructure development across the country. According to Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, the government has allocated over N350 billion under the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Fund to support dams and the expansion of irrigation facilities.
Bagudu made this announcement while speaking to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi, shortly after condoling with former Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) boss, Abul-Rashid Bawa, on the passing away of his mother. The minister emphasized that climate change is a global challenge, citing examples of flooding incidents in Europe and other parts of the world.
The government has also approved N3 billion to each state of the federation to mitigate the effects of flooding. Additionally, President Ahmed Bola-Tinubu has taken proactive steps to address climate change, recognizing its impact on the country. The president has released numerous timely allocations of Federal Allocation Account money to support the efforts.
The state of Kebbi has received its share of the fund, with Governor Nasiri Idris taking possession of the allocated amount. The government has also approved N900 billion for the Kebbi component of the Sokoto-Badagry High Way, which is the single biggest contract awarded under the current administration.
Furthermore, the government has approved the construction of Zaria Kala-Kala road in Koko/Besse Local Government of the state. This road will join other awarded roads, including Melando-Warra in Birnin Yauri, Ngaski local government area of the state.
The minister commended Governor Idris for his positive impact on uplifting the living standard of the people while steering the affairs of the state. Bagudu also praised the governor for taking necessary action to bring relief to communities affected by flooding and encouraging farmers to cultivate crops for self-sufficiency in food production.
