Bobrisky Sues Activist for Defamatory Audio, Demands Apology & Damages

Celebrity Cross-Dresser Bobrisky Sues Critic Over Defamatory Audio

Nigerian cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has taken legal action against internet activist and critic, VeryDarkMan, also known as VDM, over an audio clip shared on social media. The audio allegedly captures Bobrisky discussing how he bribed officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with N15 million to drop money laundering charges against him. The voice record also supposedly implicates officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) in allegedly allowing Bobrisky to spend his six-month prison sentence outside the correctional facility.

However, Bobrisky has denied any involvement in the alleged bribery, claiming that the audio was artificially generated using AI technology. In a letter shared on his Facebook page, Bobrisky’s legal team demanded that VDM delete the audio clip, issue a public apology in two national newspapers, and record a video apology to be shared across social media platforms. The suit also demands that VDM cease publishing defamatory content about Bobrisky and pay N1 billion in damages within 24 hours.

The letter read: “We demand, on behalf of our client, a written apology published in two national daily newspapers, a video recording of your apology to our client shared on all your social media platforms, a commitment to refrain from reporting or publishing defamatory content against our client, and the payment of N1,000,000,000 in damages within 24 hours of this letter via social media or any other means.”

This development raises concerns about the spread of false information and the use of AI technology to create misleading content. As the debate around the authenticity of the audio continues, it remains to be seen how the legal battle will unfold.
