Ethiopian Athletes Shine at Berlin Marathon, Claim Medals and Break Records
On Sunday, a talented group of Ethiopian athletes made headlines at the Berlin marathon, with Milkesa Mengesha taking the top spot in the men’s category with a personal best time of 2 hours 3 minutes. He was joined on the podium by fellow Ethiopian Haymanot Alew, who narrowly missed out on second place to Kenya’s Cybrian Kotut.
In the women’s race, Tigist Ketema emerged victorious, crossing the finish line in 2 hours 16 minutes and 42 seconds. She was followed by her Ethiopian teammates Mestawut Fikir and Bosena Mulatie, who took second and third places respectively.
This year’s event marked a significant change, as it was the first time since 2014 that neither Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge nor Ethiopia’s Kenenisa Bekele participated. Despite this, the Ethiopian athletes dominated the podium, with over 58,000 runners from 161 nations taking part in the challenge – a record number of athletes.
Mengesha’s win was a remarkable achievement, with his personal best time a testament to his dedication and hard work. The 25-year-old athlete has been making a name for himself on the international running circuit, and this victory is sure to propel him to even greater heights.
The success of the Ethiopian athletes at the Berlin marathon is a source of pride for the nation, and a testament to the country’s rich athletic heritage. With a string of talented runners emerging in recent years, it is likely that Ethiopia will continue to be a force to be reckoned with on the global running scene.
