PDP’s North-Central Chairman Hopeful: Ologbondiyan Stands by Zoning Arrangement

PDP Chieftain Calls for North-Central to Produce Next National Chairman

In a bold declaration, Kola Ologbondiyan, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has stated that the North-Central region should produce the party’s next National Chairman. Ologbondiyan based his assertion on a long-standing zoning arrangement that has allocated the position to the North-Central.

The PDP chieftain made the statement over the weekend in Abuja, during a meeting with a group of PDP youths from the North-Central. According to Ologbondiyan, the party’s constitution, which was amended in 2017, is the guiding principle for decision-making, not the personal desires of individual party members.

"Ignore the antics of certain members of the party who have turned themselves to the party’s Constitution and are churning out rules at their whims and caprices," Ologbondiyan said. "The grundnorm for the PDP is the PDP’s Constitution (2017 as Amended) and not the desires of any individual, regardless of their position."

Ologbondiyan emphasized that the North-Central region will produce a successor to Senator Ayu, the current National Chairman, and that any attempts to stop the implementation of Section 47 (6) of the PDP Constitution (as amended) are not in the best interest of the party.

The declaration by Ologbondiyan has sparked debate within the PDP, with some members questioning the validity of the zoning arrangement. However, Ologbondiyan’s statement has also been met with support from many party loyalists who see the North-Central as the rightful successor to the National Chairman position.

The controversy highlights the ongoing power struggle within the PDP, with different factions vying for control. As the party prepares for its next national convention, the debate over the National Chairman position is likely to continue, with Ologbondiyan’s declaration adding fuel to the fire.
