APGA Sweeps Anambra Local Elections, Wins All 21 Chairmanship Seats

APGA Wins Big in Anambra Local Government Elections

In a landslide victory, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) emerged triumphant in the September 28, 2024 local government elections in Anambra State, sweeping all 21 chairmanship and 326 councillorship positions across the state’s 21 local government areas and 326 wards.

According to Genevieve Osakwe, the chairman of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC), APGA secured all chairmanship seats and councillorship positions, with the results confirmed at the ward level. Osakwe described the election as the fairest, citing the commission’s meticulous collation and analysis of results to ensure accuracy.

In a press briefing on Sunday, Osakwe revealed that APGA candidates received the highest votes cast, with the commission declaring them winners. She praised the citizens of Anambra State for their strong turnout and expressed gratitude to security agencies for maintaining peace and order throughout the process.

Osakwe emphasized the commission’s commitment to transparency, stating, "We carefully collated and analysed the results to ensure that there were no mistakes. We ensured all scores and parties were announced at the polling units yesterday. We are here, today, to affirm the results as recorded. The election held at all polling units across Anambra State on September 28 was free, fair, and credible."

Notably, no representatives from opposition political parties were present at the ANSIEC office when the results were declared, aside from APGA officials and party agents.

This decisive victory for APGA marks a significant milestone in the state’s political landscape, with the party now holding all local government chairmanship and councillorship positions.
