Police Neutralize Suspected Gunman in Anambra State, Recover Weapons and Charms
In a recent encounter, the Anambra State Police Command has claimed to have neutralized a suspected gunman during a gun battle with miscreants in the Igbo Ukwu/Ezinifite Uga area of the state. According to a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, the police encountered the armed men at around 11:30 pm on Sunday during a routine patrol of the area.
Ikenga stated that the armed men engaged in a gun duel with the police, but were unsuccessful in their attempt, as the police killed one of the men while others fled the scene. The police also recovered several exhibits, including AK 57 rifles, armoured vests, and criminal charms, among others.
The statement further revealed that the security forces recovered two AK 47 rifles, one pump action gun, two magazines loaded with live ammunition, 15 live cartridges, one black Prado jeep with two different plate numbers, two police body armoured vests, three face caps, one black handbag, and different types of criminal charms.
The clearance operation, which commenced in the area, is still ongoing, with further details to be communicated. This incident is the latest in a string of attacks on the Oba Police Divisional headquarters and the Oba Civic Centre, which has raised concerns among residents and local leaders.
On September 7, the Regent of Oba community in Idemili South LG of the state, Noel Ezenwa, and residents condemned the attack on the Oba Police Divisional headquarters and the Oba Civic Centre, where a police corporal was killed and others injured.
The Anambra State Police Command’s swift action in neutralizing the suspected gunman and recovering weapons is a testament to their dedication to maintaining law and order in the state. However, the ongoing clearance operation and the investigation into the attack on the Oba Police Divisional headquarters and the Oba Civic Centre will be closely monitored by residents and local leaders, who are eager to see justice served.
