Israel’s Prime Minister Issues Fresh Warning to Iran Amid Ongoing Tensions
In a video statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Iran that there is "no place in the Middle East beyond Israel’s reach" amid a flurry of strikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon. Netanyahu addressed the people of Iran, saying their government is bringing them "closer to the abyss" and warned that the regime is plunging the region deeper into darkness and war.
Netanyahu’s comments come after Israel has been mounting heavy air strikes in Lebanon against the "Axis of Resistance", a network of Iran-aligned militant groups in the region. The strikes killed Hassan Nasrallah, the head of the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, and Abbas Nilforoushan, a top commander of the Quds Force, on Friday.
Iran has vowed to avenge the deaths, and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has called on the "Axis of Resistance" to stand with Hezbollah. Netanyahu, however, expressed hope for a future where Iran is "finally free" and said it would "come a lot sooner than people think".
Netanyahu’s warning was echoed by Israel’s foreign ministry spokesman, who said that there is "no need to send extra or volunteer forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran" to directly confront Israel. Instead, Lebanon and fighters in the Palestinian territories have the capability and strength to defend themselves against aggression.
The Israeli strikes have sparked tensions between Israel and Iran, with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian visiting Hezbollah’s office in Tehran to pay tribute to Nasrallah on Monday. The visit was seen as a show of solidarity between Iran and Hezbollah, which has been armed and financed by the Islamic republic for years.
The ongoing tensions between Israel and Iran are a concern for the region, and it remains to be seen how the situation will unfold in the coming days.
