Rivers Governor Fubara Promises Free & Fair Elections on October 5th

Rivers State Governor Insists on Conducting Local Government Election

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to conducting the forthcoming Local Government Election scheduled for October 5th. The election will go ahead as planned, despite any perceived obstacles, according to the governor.

Fubara made this statement during an inspection tour of the 12.5km N225.1billion Trans-Kalabari Road project, which is under construction in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. The project, which is considered a legacy project for the governor, is expected to connect the Tombia people to the city.

The governor urged political parties, candidates, and the electorate to be enthusiastic as they prepare to vote for their preferred candidates who will become the new political leaders at the council level. He assured that the election will be conducted in a free and fair manner, with the support of security agencies and the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).

Fubara visited the RSIEC complex, where he interacted with the Chairman of the Commission, Justice Adolphus Enebeli, and other principal staff. He warned against any plans to disrupt activities at the commission, stating that the interest of Rivers State is paramount and that nobody has the right to disrupt the electoral process.

The governor’s assurance comes at a time when there are concerns about the preparedness of the state for the election. However, with the governor’s commitment and the support of the security agencies and RSIEC, the election is likely to proceed as planned.

In his words, Fubara said, “Our election will hold on the 5th of October, 2024. I’m aware that RSIEC told me that they already had an order mandating them to conduct the election on the 5th of October 2024, and the security agencies to support them. So, I think with that order, the election will hold. I might not be a lawyer but I know there is something they call first-in-hand, and since they have the first-in-hand, we will give them all the necessary support for that election to be conducted. And it will be one of the best elections ever conducted free and fair in this State.”
