Nigeria Marks 64th Independence Anniversary as PDP Candidate Urges Judiciary to Punish Election Irregularities
Nigeria is celebrating its 64th independence anniversary amidst concerns over the integrity of its democratic process. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Asue Ighodalo has used the occasion to urge the judiciary to remain impartial and punish those responsible for electoral irregularities in the recently held governorship poll in Edo State.
Ighodalo made the call in his Independence Day message to the people of Edo State, issuing a statement through the Team Asue Media Organisation (TAMO) on Tuesday. He also reminded Nigerians to remain steadfast in the face of the numerous challenges the country has faced since gaining independence from Great Britain in 1960.
The PDP governorship candidate described the recent election as the “most brazen electoral heist in Nigeria’s democratic history since 1999” and urged the judiciary to address the irregularities impartially.
