Thunderstorms Predicted Across Nigeria from Thursday to Saturday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather outlook warning of thunderstorms across the country from Thursday to Saturday. The agency’s forecast indicates that thunderstorms are expected in various parts of the country, including the North-central, North-east, South-west, and South-south regions.

According to NiMet, thunderstorms are predicted over parts of Adamawa, Taraba, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, and Kaduna States during Wednesday’s morning hours. Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Bauchi, Adamawa, Kaduna, Katsina, Taraba, Yobe, Zamfara, Borno, and Kebbi states.

In the North-central region, thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Nasarawa, and Benue States during the morning hours. In the afternoon and evening hours, thunderstorms are expected over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Kogi, Benue, and Nasarawa States.

In the South-central region, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Ondo, Ekiti, Osun, Edo, Imo, Enugu, Abia, Ebonyi, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states during the morning and afternoon hours.

Residents are advised to take necessary precautions, including avoiding flood-prone areas, as strong winds may precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur. The agency also advised residents to stay informed through weather updates and adhere to safety advisories issued by relevant authorities.

It’s worth noting that there is a high likelihood of urban flooding in major cities due to heavy downpours. NiMet has also forecast patches of clouds with intervals of sunshine over the northern region later in the day.

For effective planning, public and airline operators are advised to get updated weather reports and forecasts from NiMet. Residents are encouraged to visit NiMet’s website, www.nimet.gov.ng, for more information on the weather outlook.
