Road Washed Away, Community in Crisis
In a recent development, a heavy downpour has cut off the road leading to Ayeh Gbede, a rural community in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State. According to President of Ayeh Gbede Development Union, Comrade Waheed Sikiru, the road, which connects Okoro Gbede to the rest of the community, has been severely damaged, leaving farmers struggling to transport their goods to the market.
The road, which is a crucial link for the community’s economy, has been rendered impassable after three portions of it were washed away in the torrential rain. Sikiru lamented the dire situation, appealing to the government to come to the community’s aid before things spiral out of control.
"We are finding it extremely difficult to convey our goods to the market, and our people are suffering because of the deplorable state of this road," Sikiru said in an interview with Media Talk Africa. He also extended an urgent call to public spirited individuals and lawmakers representing the area, including Hon. Salman Idris and Senator Sunday Karimi, to lend a helping hand.
As the community struggles to come to terms with the sudden disruption, residents are anxiously awaiting a solution to the problem. With the road unlikely to be repaired anytime soon, the long-term effects of this crisis on the community’s livelihoods remain uncertain. As the story unfolds, the people of Ayeh Gbede are holding on to the hope that the government will take immediate action to address this critical issue.
