Labour Party Denounces Former Chairman’s Sale Announcement

Abia Labour Party Warns Against Misleading Announcement Over Nomination Forms

Abia State, Nigeria, has been rocked by confusion over the sale of nomination forms for the upcoming November 2 Local Government elections. The Labour Party (LP) state chapter has issued a stark warning to the public against an announcement made by Mr. Ceekay Igara, the party’s former chairman, regarding the sale of nomination forms.

Mr. Emmanuel Otti, the acting chairman of LP in Abia State, has urged party members to disregard the announcement and instructed them to obtain their nomination forms from the Labour Party secretariat in Umuahia, the state capital. Otti made this clear in a statement issued on Wednesday, October 1, 2024.

According to Otti, all official statements or instructions concerning the party’s activities in the state must come from the Caretaker Committee. He emphasizes that any contrary information is considered an act of impersonation and should be reported to the appropriate authorities immediately.

The statement further indicated that the Labour Party was not interested in extorting money from the public under any guise. The party aims to ensure that the sale of forms and the selection of candidates are completed in a responsible, peaceful, and orderly manner, thus maintaining peace after the exercise.

Meanwhile, LP has announced its schedule for the Local Government election primaries. The sale of nomination/expression of interest forms will commence on Wednesday, October 2, 2024. The deadline for submission of completed forms and screening of aspirants will be on Thursday, October 3, and the primary election for chairmanship and Counselorship candidates will take place on Friday, October 4, 2024.
