Nigerian Drug Enforcement Agency Partners with Community Groups to Combat Drug Abuse in Kano

In a concerted effort to address the growing problem of drug abuse in Kano State, Nigeria, the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has established partnerships with key community groups to curb the menace. The partnership aims to tackle the increasing cases of substance abuse and promote rehabilitation.

Kano State NDLEA Commandant Ahmed Ahmed stressed the importance of collaborative efforts during a courtesy visit to the Emir of Rano, Muhammad Umaru. He emphasized that substance abuse is a growing concern and that joining forces is crucial to addressing the disturbing trends. Muhd. Kabir, Area Commander for Rano, Bunkure, Kibiya, and Garko, also emphasized the agency’s commitment to curbing the alarming abuse of Fortwin injections and marijuana in the Rano axis.

Kabir highlighted that the partnership will boost efforts to prevent drug abuse and support rehabilitation. The NDLEA is also planning to build a rehabilitation Centre in Rano local government, as well as a pre-election free drug awareness campaign, aimed at supporting the successful conduct of the forthcoming local government election.

The Emir of Rano, Muhd Umaru, has promised to support the agency’s efforts to rid the community of escalating drug abuse issues. The visit was a bid to strengthen the existing relationship between the NDLEA and the Emirate, fostering a united front against substance abuse in Kano State.

Zonal Information Officer Rano, Rabiu Khalil Kura, stated that the partnership will help to promote a healthy and drug-free society. The move is a significant step in addressing the complex issue of drug abuse in Kano State and demonstrating the commitment of both the NDLEA and the Emirate to work together to address this menace.
