Nigeria’s Minister of Power’s WhatsApp Number Hacked, Nigerians Warned to Disregard Financial Appeals

In a worrying development, the WhatsApp number of Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has been hacked. The minister’s spokesperson, Bolaji Tunji, disclosed the incident in a statement to Media Talk Africa on Thursday night. The compromised phone number is 08022901928, and Tunji warned Nigerians to disregard any appeals for money or financial support made through this number.

This is the third high-profile hacking incident in Nigeria’s government in just six days. Earlier, the WhatsApp numbers of the Minister of Education, Prof Tahir Mamman, and the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, were also hacked. The hacking incidents have raised concerns about the security of government officials’ personal and official communication channels.

Tunji’s statement urged Nigerians to be cautious and not respond to any suspicious messages or requests for financial assistance through the compromised number. The hacking incident is a reminder of the importance of online security and the need for government officials to take necessary measures to protect their personal and official communication channels.

The hacking incidents have also raised questions about the effectiveness of the government’s cybersecurity measures and the level of coordination among government agencies to prevent such incidents. As the government continues to grapple with the fallout from these hacking incidents, it is essential that it takes concrete steps to improve the security of its communication channels and protect the personal data of its officials and citizens.

In the meantime, Nigerians are advised to exercise extreme caution when receiving messages or requests for financial assistance through WhatsApp or any other communication channel. It is crucial to verify the authenticity of such messages and not respond to suspicious requests to avoid falling victim to scams or other fraudulent activities.
