Nigerian Political Leader Urges Unity Behind President Tinubu

In a recent gathering of the All Progressives Congress South West Zone Assembly, former Ogun State Governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba, emphasized the importance of rallying behind President Bola Tinubu, highlighting the crucial role Yoruba leadership played in his political rise. Osoba made the statement at the Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos, where key political leaders from the region reflected on their contributions to Tinubu’s success.

Osoba stressed that Tinubu’s presidency was not a solo achievement, but rather the result of a concerted effort by Yoruba leadership. He recalled the strategic decision taken by South West leaders in 2007 to elevate Tinubu from state-level politics in Lagos to the national political arena. "Bola didn’t make himself the President of Nigeria; we did," Osoba said, attributing Tinubu’s success to the collective efforts of Yoruba leaders.

The assembly also reflected on past political struggles faced by the Yoruba people, including their long-standing pursuit of leadership at the national level. Osoba spoke about the sacrifices made by many Yoruba leaders, including the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and MKO Abiola, who fought for the country’s betterment but ultimately lost their lives. Despite this, Osoba urged Yoruba leaders to accept Tinubu’s shortcomings and support him, as he will do better in his second term as president.

President Tinubu, who was elected in 2023, has been a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, credited with transforming Lagos into an economic powerhouse during his tenure as governor. While his presidency has faced criticism in some quarters, Osoba emphasized the Yoruba leadership’s unity behind Tinubu and confidence in his ability to deliver on his promises.

As Nigeria looks to the future, Osoba’s call for unity and support behind President Tinubu serves as a reminder of the crucial role regional leaders play in shaping the country’s political landscape.
