Armed Robbery and Rape Suspect Arrested in Ogun State
The Ogun State police command has announced the arrest of Shedrack Olawale Olayemi, a 33-year-old suspect wanted for armed robbery and alleged rape of female students at Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, in July. The arrest was made possible after an intelligence report revealed that Olayemi was sighted at the university area, trying to conceal his identity.
According to the police spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, the suspect was picked up following a tip-off and swift action by the authorities. Olayemi has been on the police wanted list for his alleged involvement in a crime of armed robbery and rape, which took place on July 21, 2024. He and his cohorts broke into a female Royal Villa accommodation area, robbing the students of their luxury educational devices and cash, and also committing rape.
The police have commenced a preliminary investigation and have taken the suspect to the Igbeba police station for interrogation. He will soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha, has directed that Olayemi’s cohorts be arrested and appealed to the host community to volunteer credible information to assist the police in tracking down other members of this criminal gang.
The police have taken swift action to bring the suspect to justice, and it is hoped that this arrest will bring closure to the victims and their families.
