Google Photos Introduces Ask Photos with AI Search

Google Photos Gains Much-Anticipated AI-Powered "Ask Photos" Feature

Google Photos has started a limited rollout of its Ask Photos feature in the United States, allowing users to search for specific images in their cloud storage using natural language queries. The innovative feature, powered by AI technology called Gemini, enables users to ask detailed, conversational questions about a particular image, and it will provide the desired outcome.

As announced at Google I/O in May and confirmed last month, users can join the waitlist to gain early access to the feature. Those who have done so are already receiving the update, and it is expected to spread to other Android users in the US via a supply-side update. The new feature replaces the traditional search tab and can be found at the bottom-right corner of Google Photos.

Once activated, users can submit queries such as "Photos from my vacation to India in August" or "Pictures of my cat wearing a collar." The AI-powered algorithm will then deliver the corresponding images, while also providing additional context by incorporating location and time stamp data, facial recognition, and image descriptions.

Regarding user privacy, Google emphasized that user data, including queries, will not be used for advertising purposes. While some prompts may be reviewed by humans, they will be done after users have disconnected their accounts, ensuring seamless protection of individual data.

The Ask Photos feature has the potential to revolutionize the way people interact with their digital photography collections. With its rolling out, Google Photos offers a unique and user-friendly way to discover and engage with images, making organizing and accessing memories easier and more enjoyable than ever.
