Bishop Urges Govts to Boost Teachers’ Welfare

Teachers Deserve Better Working Conditions, Says Nigerian Bishop

In a special program organized by the Ijesa North Anglican Diocese for teachers in Ijebu-Jesa, Osun State, the Diocesan Bishop, Isaac Oluyamo, has urged the Federal and State Governments to provide a more robust welfare package for teachers. The bishop emphasized that the government must create schemes to ensure better working and living conditions for teachers, including providing loans to purchase cars and build houses, as well as special allowances.

Oluyamo stressed that teachers play a vital role in shaping the minds of future leaders and must have stable minds to perform their duties effectively. He urged the government to provide whatever is necessary for teachers to discharge their duties, as the wellbeing of the people remains a primary responsibility of government at all levels.

The bishop also called on teachers to be dutiful and committed to their duties, noting that anyone in the teaching profession must do the job with the fear of God. He challenged them to continue serving humanity through their profession by providing the best training for Nigeria’s future leaders.

Oluyamo’s call comes at a time when teachers in Nigeria are facing numerous challenges, including poor working conditions, inadequate remuneration, and a lack of resources. The bishop’s advocacy for a better welfare package for teachers is a timely reminder of the importance of investing in the education sector and recognizing the vital role that teachers play in shaping the future of the country.

In his statement, Oluyamo highlighted the need for special allowances to be given to teachers, as well as their promotions to come as and when due. He emphasized that teachers must have stable minds to perform their duties effectively and urged the government to provide whatever is necessary for them to discharge their duties.

The bishop’s comments have sparked a renewed call for the government to prioritize the welfare of teachers and provide them with the necessary resources and support to excel in their profession. As the debate around education reform continues in Nigeria, Oluyamo’s advocacy for a better welfare package for teachers serves as a reminder of the importance of investing in the education sector and recognizing the vital role that teachers play in shaping the future of the country.
