DigiLocker Ties Up with UMANG for Seamless Access to Govt Services

DigiLocker Introduces UMANG App Integration, Simplifying Access to Government Services

The Indian government’s digitized wallet platform, DigiLocker, has taken a significant leap forward with the integration of the UMANG app, making it easier for users to access and manage various government services on a single platform. This development is set to revolutionize the way citizens interact with government agencies, providing them with a hassle-free and convenient experience.

According to MeitY, the integration of UMANG on DigiLocker is designed to simplify access to personal and official documents, as well as various government services. Users will be able to access a range of services, including those related to AADHAAR, PAN, EPFO, certificates, pension, utilities, public grievance, health and wellness, and travel.

To get started, users need to update their DigiLocker app to the latest version, open the app on their Android device, tap on the UMANG icon, and install the UMANG app from the Google Play Store. Although the feature is currently only available on the Android platform, MeitY has confirmed that it will be expanded to iOS in the future.

This development is in line with MeitY’s vision of simplifying the process of interacting with government agencies. The Indian Railways, for instance, has recently integrated its hiring portal with DigiLocker, aiming to reduce the recruitment process from 18-24 months to just six months. The document verification process is now entirely digital, with medical checkup calls and appointment letters issued through the digital portal.

According to the National e-Governance Division, the integration of UMANG on DigiLocker “has always been a pioneer in simplifying access to personal and official documents” and has “expanded the range of services you can access on the go.” With this move, DigiLocker has significantly simplified the process of accessing government services, making it more convenient for citizens to manage their documents and interact with government agencies.
