Cholera Outbreak Strikes Kaduna State, One Death Reported in 86 Suspected Cases

The Kaduna State Primary Healthcare Development Agency has confirmed one death out of 86 suspected cases of cholera in the state. According to Hamza Ibrahim -Ikara, the Director of Public Health, the state had not recorded a single case of cholera for the past five months, but a sudden outbreak has now been reported.

The index case, a 16-year-old boy from Likoro in Kudan LGA, was unfortunate enough to succumb to the disease before the health facility could provide treatment. This tragic event prompted the state government to reactivate its rapid response team, which swung into action on August 16.

Since then, the state has reported 19 cases from three local governments, with two cases in Kudan, nine in Sabon Gari, and seven in Kubau. A total of 86 suspected cases have been reported across nine local governments, with 24 individuals already treated and discharged.

As the situation unfolds, it is crucial for the people of Kaduna to take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the disease. With the state government’s swift response to the outbreak, it is hoped that further measures can be put in place to contain the spread of cholera and minimize its impact on the community.

The recent outbreak is a sobering reminder of the importance of maintaining proper hygiene, sanitation, and healthcare infrastructure. As we continue to follow this story, we will keep you updated on any developments and provide guidance on how to stay safe in the face of this public health crisis.
