The Future of AI: Nvidia CEO Reveals the Path to “Reasoning” Intelligence

Jensen Huang, the Chief Executive Officer of Nvidia, has shed light on the future of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in a recent podcast. According to Huang, the next generation of AI tools will be able to “reason” and respond to queries by going through hundreds or thousands of steps, reflecting on their own conclusions. This capability will set them apart from current systems, such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which Huang uses every day.

To achieve this future, Nvidia plans to boost its chip performance every year by two to three times, at the same level of cost and energy consumption. This will revolutionize the way AI systems handle inference, allowing them to spot patterns and draw conclusions more effectively. As Huang phrased it, “We’re able to drive incredible cost reduction for intelligence. We all realize the value of this. If we can drive down the cost tremendously, we could do things at inference time like reasoning.”

Nvidia’s dominance in the AI market is evident, with the company holding more than 90% of the market for accelerator chips – processors that speed up AI work. However, it is facing challenges from data center operators like Amazon.com Inc.’s AWS and Microsoft, as well as Advanced Micro Devices, which has emerged as a rival in the AI market. AMD plans to share its latest AI products at an event this Thursday.

As the AI landscape continues to evolve, it will be exciting to see how these next-generation tools will shape the future of artificial intelligence.
