Bishop Oyedepo: No Wages from Covenant University, Success Stories His Reward

New Graduates Receive Words of Wisdom from Bishop David Oyedepo at Covenant University’s 19th Convocation

Lagos, Nigeria – Bishop David Oyedepo, the Founder and Presiding Bishop of the Living Faith Church and Chancellor of Covenant University, has revealed that he has never earned a wage from the institution since its inception in 2001. This disclosure was made during the university’s 19th convocation, dubbed “The Release of Eagles 2024,” which took place from Thursday to Saturday.

According to Bishop Oyedepo, the success stories and personal growth of Covenant University’s students have been his true rewards. Speaking at the event, he emphasized that his motivation has never been driven by personal gain, but rather by a desire to contribute meaningfully to society.

The university’s 1,607 graduates included 339 with first-class honours, 762 with second-class upper honours, 330 with second-class lower honours, 25 with third-class honours, and 151 from postgraduate programmes. Covenant University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abiodun Adebayo, expressed his gratitude for the graduating class, known as the “Eagles 2024,” and underscored their potential to become future leaders.

The event also saw the presence of notable dignitaries, including former Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, who commended the institution’s dedication to character building. The Olota of Ota, Oba Adeyemi Obalanlege, also acknowledged Covenant University’s influence on the town, stating that it has made Ota a globally desirable location.

In his address, Oyedepo encouraged the graduates to adopt a mindset focused on contributing to the greater good, rather than seeking personal rewards. “You are created to be a contributor. Find a place to contribute. You cannot be a contributor and a failure,” he said. He also urged the graduates to remain committed to God’s plan, emphasizing the importance of staying aligned with that purpose.

As the event came to a close, Oyedepo left the graduates with words of hope and encouragement, stating, “We will see a brand new Nigeria. Don’t jump the fence. Your star is where you belong. A commitment to be at the centre of God’s plan is very essential.”
