Inspiring Words from Covenant University’s Chancellor: “I Haven’t Earned a Dime”

In a heartwarming address, Bishop David Oyedepo, the chancellor of Covenant University, revealed that he has not received a single payment for his work at the institution since its inception. Speaking during the university’s 19th convocation, Oyedepo emphasized that the testimonies of success and growth of the students have been his greatest rewards.

With over 1,607 graduates receiving their degrees and prizes, Oyedepo took the opportunity to highlight the graduates’ contributions to various sectors, including aviation, fashion, banking, and information and communication technology. He encouraged the graduates to be contributors, stating, “You are created to be a contributor. Find a place to contribute. You cannot be a contributor and be a failure. You will be part of the solution and not those who are problems.”

For Oyedepo, the true fulfillment comes from seeing the students excel and make a positive impact. “I said this before God,” he said. “I have not earned any wages from Covenant University since its inception. Your testimonies of success and breakthroughs in different fields of endeavour have been my earnings and wages.”

The event marked a significant milestone for the institution, demonstrating the academical achievements and professional accomplishments of its students. This emotional address from the chancellor serves as a reminder of the importance of mentorship and encouragement, inspiring the graduates to make a meaningful difference in the world.
