Governor Ododo Urges Local Government Administrators to Uphold Professional Ethics and Transparency

In a bid to strengthen the relationship between the government and the people, Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo has advised Directors of Local Government and Treasurers to uphold the tenets of local government autonomy and professional ethics in the discharge of their responsibilities.

Governor Ododo made this call at an interactive session with the forum of Directors of Local Government and Treasurers in Lokoja, stressing that the performance of local government administrators is crucial for ensuring transparency and accountability in governance. He emphasized that their role as representatives of the government at the grassroots level can bring about more development in local government administration.

The Governor commended the resilience and productivity of the Directors of Local Government and Treasurers, highlighting their importance in ensuring accurate records and upholding professional ethics, particularly among accountants in the public sector. He encouraged them to work together, urging unity among officials to ensure the delivery of dividends of democracy to the people at the grassroots level.

In his address, the Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Aliyu Umar praised Governor Ododo’s transparency and accountability as a leader, promising that the legislature will continue to support his efforts to take governance closer to the people.

The Kogi State Accountant General, Habiba Onumoko, welcomed the gathering, highlighting Governor Ododo’s contributions to grassroots development, empowerment of youth and women, and employment opportunities, as well as appointment into government positions. She described the Governor as a man of impact and an embodiment of humility.

The chairman of the forum of Directors of Local Government in Kogi State, Alhaji Aliyu Musa, expressed gratitude to the Governor for approving a minimum wage of 72,500 for workers in the state and other initiatives, which have boosted the welfare of civil servants in the state. He commended the State Accountant General for her guidance and professionalism in the discharge of her responsibilities.

This gathering comes at a crucial time, as the state government continues to work towards delivering on its promises to the people. With Governor Ododo’s call for transparency and accountability, it is hoped that local government administrators will prioritize these values, ensuring that the needs of the people are met and that governance is taken closer to the grassroots.
