New Leader Emerges for Kano State PDP: Yusuf Kibiya Takes the Helm

In a resounding victory, Yusuf Kibiya, a former Commissioner for Agriculture in Kano State, has been elected as the new chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state. The election results announced by Halilu Mazagani, chairman of the election committee, confirm Kibiya’s triumph over his opponent, Nura Nuhu, with 3,964 votes to Nuhu’s 244.

Kibiya’s victory is significant, as he served as Commissioner under ex-governor Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso from 1999 to 2003. In his acceptance speech, he emphasized the party’s readiness to tackle internal challenges and prepare for future electoral contests.

Mazagani, while announcing the election results, acknowledged the party’s internal challenges but expressed confidence in their ability to manage differences and work towards a unified front. He also stressed the importance of presenting credible candidates to the electorate, urging party members to unity and mobilization ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Former Kano State governor and PDP stalwart, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, also addressed the audience, expressing optimism about the party’s prospects. He assured party members and supporters that the PDP would present a formidable team for the upcoming 2027 general elections.

The Kano state PDP is gearing up for the local government election scheduled for October 26, 2024, and Kibiya’s leadership will be instrumental in preparing the party for these elections. With this new leadership, the PDP is poised to challenge any opposition in the state and beyond. As Kibiya takes the helm, he has his work cut out, but he is confident that the party can achieve great things.
