Horror at Home: 26-Year-Old Man Sets Ablaze His Mentally Unstable Grandmother in Jigawa State
In a chilling incident, 26-year-old Nura Mas’ud, a resident of Mu’azu village in Sule Tankarkar LGA, has been arrested by the Jigawa State Police Command for setting his 60-year-old grandmother, Zuwaira Muhammad, on fire. The incident occurred after Mas’ud’s grandmother had repeatedly expressed concern over his physical appearance and mental health status, which has been a source of worry for her.
According to a confessional audio clip, Mas’ud claimed he was fed up with his grandmother’s endless inquiries about his health status, which he felt were invasive and intrusive. He stated that he poured petrol on her to put an end to her constant questioning. “She frequently asked about my health, and I asked her what was happening to me but she kept mum. That was what informed my decision to pour petrol on her,” he said.
The Jigawa State Police Command’s spokesman, Shiisu Lawan Adam, confirmed the incident, revealing that preliminary investigations showed that Mas’ud is suffering from mental derangement and has been receiving treatment at the Kazaure Psychiatric Hospital. The victim, Zuwaira Muhammad, died while receiving treatment at a hospital, and the suspect has voluntarily confessed to the crime, citing the repeated inquiries about his life as the reason for his actions.
The incident highlights the complex and disturbing reality of mental health issues in many parts of the world. It is a stark reminder of the need for compassion, understanding, and support for individuals struggling with mental health concerns, as well as the importance of mental health services and resources.
The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested Mas’ud, and he is currently in custody, facing charges related to murder and arson. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of mental illness and the importance of addressing these issues with empathy and urgency.
