Kenya Connect Honors 110 Teachers for Exemplary Performance

Teachers in Kenya Recognized for Exemplary Performance

In a bid to celebrate the dedication and hard work of teachers, 110 educators from 65 partner schools in Mwala Sub-County, Machakos County, have been recognized for their outstanding performance. The recognition is part of the World Teachers’ Day celebrations, which aim to honor teachers who go beyond the call of duty in nurturing learning and providing quality education.

The Kenya Connect Teacher Recognition Award, established in 2023, is a testament to the organization’s commitment to breaking barriers to education. By providing enrichment programs, such as literacy initiatives and mobile libraries, Kenya Connect is empowering schools to offer a comprehensive literacy experience.

One of the standout winners is Veronica Muthusi, a language teacher at Miondoni Primary School, who received the Literacy Champion Award for her tireless efforts in promoting reading. Muthusi’s dedication to nurturing a reading culture has resulted in significant improvements in student literacy, particularly in rural areas where access to books is limited.

Another notable recipient is Daniel Mutiso, a teacher at Mbuini Primary School, who received the Beyond Duty Award for his commitment to environmental conservation. Mutiso took charge of the school’s compost toilet, training teachers and sourcing materials to ensure its efficient operation. The compost toilet helps prevent contamination of underground water and provides nutrient-rich manure for farming.

Lawrence Kasivi, a teacher at Mangolota Primary School, was recognized with the Technology Champion Award for his innovative approach to digital learning. Kasivi started a coding club in his school and made use of laptops and Chromebooks provided by Kenya Connect to teach robotics and coding.

The awards highlight the critical role teachers play in shaping the future of Kenya’s youth, especially in rural areas where resources are often scarce. As Mwala Sub-County TSC Director Abuga Benard noted, "Teachers nurture small minds to become great people, and they should be appreciated and celebrated."

The recognition of these dedicated teachers is a testament to the impact they have on the lives of their students and the community at large. As Kenya Connect continues to support schools with learning tools and training, it is clear that the future of education in Kenya is in good hands.
