No More Kidnappings and Killings: Labour Party Presidential Candidate Laments Persistent Violence in Nigeria

Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed his deep sadness and concern over the alarming rate of kidnappings and killings in Nigeria. In a social media post, Obi condemned the tragic incident where a group of crew members from Supersports TV were attacked and killed in an ambush along the Ihiala-Orlu Road in Anambra State. The victims were on their way to cover the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, qualifiers against Libya when the attack occurred.

According to reports, the victims were gunned down, and a few others were kidnapped. Obi, a former Anambra State governor, stressed that the situation has continued to worsen, with non-state actors causing immense pain and sorrow to families of those kidnapped or killed. He argued that the nation is faced with a crisis that requires urgent attention from the authorities.

Additionally, the former governor highlighted another recent terror attack in the Agatu local government area of Benue state, where a few persons were killed and some others injured. He urged authorities to take decisive action to address the crisis.

As the country faces this humanitarian crisis, it is imperative that leaders come together to provide solutions and prevent further suffering. The international community must also join hands to support Nigeria in combating these devastating crimes.

It is hoped that Obi’s concerns will bring about a much-needed awareness and push for change in the country. Only time will tell if the country can overcome this dark period and emerge stronger.
